Reviewing the New iPad

Posted by admin under Shopping And Product Reviews on Wednesday Jul 8, 2009

Apple recently unveiled its new iPad, a tablet that is bigger than an iPod Touch but much smaller than a laptop or a netbook. It offers a wide range of applications, including e-books, web browsing, games, and movies. With a 1GHz processor and WiFi capabilities, the iPad will be available with 16GB of flash memory for $499, with 32GB for $599, or with 64GB for $699. For $829, the iPad features both WiFi as well as 3G connectivity. All models will be ready for purchase via AT&T in about two months.

The iPad weighs in at 1.5 pounds and measures 9.6-inches high, 7.5-inches wide, and 1.5-inches deep. It features a 9.7-inch LCD display screen with 4:3 resolution and 1024 x 768 pixels. In addition, the iPad boasts an approximate battery life of 10 hours for viewing or one-month in standby mode. It runs on a modified version of the iPhone operating system and is compatible with most iPhone applications.

Aiming to rival the Kindle, the iPad offers an iBook application that allows users to download and read e-books. To compete with laptops, Apple provides an iPad version of its iWork application along with an optional keyboard. The iPad also includes gaming capabilities, making it a new competitor for the PSP Go. Two noticeably absent features are a built-in camera and the ability to run Flash programs.

Will the Apple iPad be as commercially successful as the iPod or the iPhone? Only time will tell. One thing seems certain, however-die-hard Apple fanatics will be lining up around the corner to get their hands on this latest innovation.

WePad, The iPad Rival

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Friday May 30, 2008

A small German company with only 180 employees is trying to rival with Apple. The Berlin based Neofonie has launched the WePad tablet which aims to be a competitor for Apple’s recently launched iPad. The WePad’s marketing campaign actually criticizes the iPad while emphasizing the difference between “I” and “We” with their marketing slogan.

The Asia-manufactured WePad weighs 800 grams, has a 288 x 190 x 13 mm size and is Android-based. It’s 11.6 inch display offers a 1366×768 resolution. Powered by the pretty fast Intel Atom N450 running at 1.66 GHz, the WePad has a built-in webcam, something the iPad designers forgot to add. To further nail the iPad in the head, the WePad has Java, Flash and Adobe Air support which makes navigating the Internet natural as it should be. The WePad also features two USB ports, GMA3150 graphics, a 6 hour lasting battery and a flash card reader.

There is a PDF document available online which outlines the similarities and differences between the iPad and the WePad made by available the WePad company itself.

When it comes to price, the WePad is a bit more expensive but considering the improvements and additional features when compared to the iPad, it may be worth it. If you can buy the base iPad for $499, the WePad starts at $599.

So, with a larger screen, a better screen resolution, a webcam and Flash support and true multitasking, you need to think twice before buying the iPad instead of the WePad. If WePad will be a success or not – only time will tell. For now, it looks promising!

iPhone Complaints Workarounds

Posted by admin under Communications on Wednesday Dec 26, 2007

iPhone complaints started flying around the internet almost as soon as the first people who purchased it were able to activate it. Last year, and even now, the iPhone is the tech gadget everyone “has to have.” Their sales continue to be phenomenal, even surpassing Apple’s own expectations. Many of the iPhone complaints are minor compared to the incredible capability of this electronic gadget. Here are a few workarounds to general complaints:

There are numerous places online to download music, movies, applications, games and more for the iPhone. A complaint made by iPhone owners is the very slow download speed the iPhone experiences.

Many people workaround the slow download speeds by consciously scheduling when they plan to do downloads for their iPhone. Although, this does not increase the download speed, planning can reduce the aggravation of waiting and waiting.

When the iPhone became available for purchase in June 2007, to activate it as a cell phone, you were required to signup (lock in) to a 2 year contract with AT&T. This caused a huge complaint by many who 1) don’t like to be told who they have to use as a cell phone service; 2) don’t particularly like AT&T service; and so on.

Los Angeles CNN reported on September 1, 2007 “Code to Unlock iPhone Cracked” Their story explained that “anonymous developers” have created software enabling the iPhone to be used by ANY phone network and will be selling the software program soon.

The unlocking software became available and people “unlocked” their iPhone from the AT&T 2 year contract, or purchased an iPhone, then “unlocked” it. Apple did an “upgrade” which was supposed to make the unlocking software obsolete. The “anonymous developers” quickly “upgraded” the unlocking software. It seems that these software developers may be able to overcome any locking features Apple may introduce.

The “anonymous developers” have now made the most current iphone unlock software online, free. They also give you easy to follow instructions on “jailbreaking” the iphone, unlocking it and activating it. If you wish to use your iPhone on a cell carrier of your choice, you can download the free unlock software.

An iPhone complaint that has even generated a lawsuit, concerns its battery and its battery life. The iPhone battery is sealed within the device and cannot be changed. You can not change it for a longer lasting battery or if it becomes defective.

Most cell phone owners are used to being able to change the battery of their cell phones at will. When the iPhone came out with the sealed battery, many new owners were upset because they were not made aware of this restriction up front. This lack of communication from Apple has turned into a lawsuit.

A way to insure you continually have battery “juice” is to purchase several iPhone recharging docks and make sure you locate them in convenient places. Keep one at home, at work, in your purse, backpack or brief case. This way, when your iPhone battery charge goes down, you can easily plug it in to the recharger.

The largest memory capacity available for the iPhone is now 16GB. Initially, the first iPhones available were only 4GB and 8GB. People have complained about the low amount of memory available, especially if they are used to 20GB iPods. They desire more memory because there are so many fun downloads available, yet they all take up memory! Unfortunately, at this time there are no workarounds to increasing your iPhone’s memory capacity other than buying a new iPhone with the largest memory capacity of 16GB.

Apple is listening to their iPhone customers. They are quickly incorporating changes to new models planned in the future to help eliminate complaints. Remember, the iPhone is a very new, and like no other device. If we give Apple time, I have no doubt, they will have it almost “perfect” for most users.

The way that the smart phone market has turned out has been great for everyone.

We have gotten new and innovative technology that has change how we communicate with each other. Things are so different now, that we should redefine what mobile communication is all together. Most of these changes were brought about with the introduction of the Apple IPhone. Even after the success of their MP3 player, the IPod, nobody thought that a computer company could take on established competitors that have been entrenched in the mobile space for years.

Now they are trying to top themselves once again by introducing another innovative product to the market. The product is known as the iPad and it looks like it is going to be a lot better than the iPhone. We will give you several reasons why we think that the iPad will prove to be the superior option to the iPhone.

• Larger Screen – Let’s face it, the iPhone allows you to do a lot of extensive computing but looking at the screen for long periods of time can be infuriating. With the new iPad, you not only get a more powerful computing experience but you also have a larger screen to work with. This is great for people who do not want to strain their eyes, every time they want to do some type of activity for more than 5 minutes.

• iBooks – Sure it is possible to read books on the iPhone, but we all know that it is not its strong suit. The screen is too small, the controls are not as intuitive, and it does not give you the same type of feeling as when you are reading a book. Even though it is not a direct competitor, the iPad was created in part to take users away from the kindle. To do that, they had to make sure that they made one of the best electronic reading environments around.

• Better integration with iWork – An application suite such as iWork would not be as effective on a device such as the iPhone. The iPad is the perfect environment for it.

• Replaces a laptop better – Apple knew that a lot of people wanted a laptop experience but with the interface of an iPhone. Even though they loved how the iPhone worked, there was just no way that you could justify using it as a suitable replacement for a full powered laptop. Now with the introduction of the iPad, the wait is no longer. Now you can type on the machine and not have to worry about your hand cramping up after more than a paragraph of usage.

So as you see, we have given you several reasons why the iPad will be better than the iPhone. Upgrading to the iPad will make your Mac work experience just that much better.

How to Achieve iPhone Tether

Posted by admin under Communications on Wednesday Nov 1, 2006

When Apple announced that they were going to release the iPhone on June 2007, a lot of people could not wait to get their hands on one. Many lined up outside the stores selling the iPhones and waited for hours. Even before the iPhone was released, there have been many press releases and ads showing its many features and capabilities.

Among these capabilities are its digital camera for still pictures and its ability to browse the web. Of course, you will have to pay for browsing the web using your iPhone since AT&T is an exclusive holder of the iPhones plans. All iPhone users are obliged to use AT&T exclusively in order to get an iPhone. Many people are happy with this since AT&T is not the leading mobile phone service provider.

Achieving iPhone Tether

Many techies have since tried to break down the iPhone and add in some applications that are not included in its features. Many have succeeded in achieving iPhone tether to allow you, the user, to access EDGE internet on your laptop. This means you can use you iPhone to have unlimited internet access.

There is a procedure that some really talented hackers have developed to install a SOCKS proxy server in your iPhone, the srelay. The srelay is free and is a 4/5 protocol proxy server. It supports IPv6 and IPv4 and can support sock connect/bind request in the protocol v4, v4a and v5. This iPhone tether makes you iPhone the source for an internet connection for your laptop.

The only problem with this very enjoyable addition to your iPhone is that it is not included in its job description. AT&T has not allowed this kind of technology to be done to your iPhone and may be in violation with your contract with them. The iPhone tether would have made you enjoy several hours of internet browsing in your laptop but AT&T could also cut off your subscription or charge you a bigger bill for this.

You would also have to consider the speed that the iPhone tether provides. AT&T could possibly be aware of this loophole and may even charge you for using the iPhone tether against the contract that you have. Just be sure to know the consequences when you try to do something which the iPhone is not supposed to do. It’s even possible that the iPhone battery might run out faster than expected due to this.
