Apple iPad and iPhone OS

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Friday Jul 22, 2011

Unlike several other tablet-designed devices encountered so far, the Apple iPad does not run a traditional operating system (OS) like the Linux, Mac OS X, or Windows. Instead, Apple has made use of a mobile version of the OS X from its unarguably fastest-growing and most successful product – the iPhone.

It is quite apparent that the iPhone OS in the iPad goes a long way in distinguishing it from others in the competition. In a market where iPad alternatives are launched in hundreds every week claiming all possible sorts of added features and advantages, the iPad remains the only tablet-computer that has got an access to the App Store.

The iPhone OS appears like a perfect fit for the iPad in several instances. For example, there are no chances of a traditional computer headache such as files scattered all over your desktop, trying to work out a feasible place for putting your downloaded image, installing extra drivers for third party hardware. Instead, with iPhone OS on your iPad, all the apps are well laid out, arranged in the form of nickel-size icons inside a grid, each of which is sensitive to touch. Whenever you download any email or image from a site, it is sure to emerge in the photo library immediately. In case you wish to make a search result for anything – an email, photo, web page, or song, all you need to do is double-click the Home button to bring up the Spotlight feature that will make a search for nearly everything stored in the device. In the iPad, there is no organizational metaphor of folders, and the result is a feeling of liberation while managing all your work.

Most users are bound to appreciate this reliability and simplicity of the iPhone OS, especially when they compare it to a conventional, inexpensive personal computer. Some, however, may disagree with this and consider the totalitarian control of Apple over its iPad’s OS suffocating.

All of us folks who are lucky enough to already have an iPhone know how much fun they can be just to play around with. Playing with my iPhone a lot myself, I have discovered some cool tips and tricks that you may find useful.

1. If you tap once at the very top of the screen when you are on the internet, it will take you back to the top of the window rather than having to scroll all the way back up. A nice time saving feature.

2. If you set the font to the smallest size, you can read more in the internet window. An advantage of this is that when you want to click a link, you can pinch (expand) that area and the link will come up very large, making it much easier to click.

3. Rather than posting the full address of internet sites in bookmarks, you can post the equivalent RSS address instead into Apple’s RSS reader and save that as your bookmark. This way you can quickly see if there’s anything interesting on your favorite site rather than downloading the whole homepage.

4. If you are writing something and the iPhone flags a word as misspelled that you know is not misspelled, cancel the correction 3 times and the word will be put into the dictionary. If you write a lot, this feature is quite useful!

5. The magnifying glass is a nice iPhone tool when you are typing an email or any other text. If you tap once and hold, a magnifying glass will pop up showing you a zoomed in view of your words and cursor. You can now easily place the cursor wherever you want. This makes editing your writing very easy.

6. You can move icons around, but not on the home screen. You have to go to the ipod section. Go to iPod > More > Edit. Now you can drag your icons all around. This can also be done in the phone section.

7. To reset your iphone, hold down the right button and the “home” front button for about 6 seconds. To power it back on, push the top button. This is different than a regular shutdown, which can be done easily by holding the sleep/wake button for 6 seconds.

8. If you get a lot of spam e-mail or other unwanted e-mail, pay attention to this time saving feature. Add a link to Yahoo mail in Safari bookmarks. From there you can check ‘delete all’ to remove all unwanted e-mails. This is much easier than deleting hundreds of spam e-mails one at a time.

If you want to be able to download all sorts of music and movies for your iPhone, check out my other article about iPhone Download Sites.

Transcripts for an Online Degree

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Tuesday Oct 26, 2010

The people that have secured an online degree need to also keep a record of their transcripts. These are the real details that indicate the level of education that the student has achieved. It is very important that the student is able to prove that they did not just pass exams, but that they learnt something during the course. Where employers have a choice in awarding a job, they will go for the applicants that can justify their paper qualifications.

Building up the right university transcripts

Every single course unit within an online degree is designed to build up the skills that will enhance the student’s understanding of that field of study. There are ad hoc assignments that are routinely administered in order to assess the level of achievement that the student is experiencing at any given point. This sort of continuous assessment then culminates in the final exam. Higher education is assessed on the combination of an exam and the regular tests that the students undertake.

The online degree is a growth process. The student will start off in a position of limited knowledge and they will end up in a position where they can challenge intellectual peers. Transcripts create a record of this progression and they will be very useful for employers that are trying to make a recruitment decision when faced with hundreds of applicants. Those applicants might have all the paper qualifications that are needed but it is those people that have practical ability and intellectual curiosity that will succeed in the end.

Giving our teens the car they dreamed of is a pleasurable thing for parents. However, on the other side, it can be a starting point of our worries. Just like the other teens, our teens enjoy high speed driving and adventure to various places. It might be a fun thing for teens, but definitely not for parents. As parents, it feels like we want to give numerous rules for them, but if we do, it will make us to be annoying parents and we will trigger them to do extreme things.

With the problem, buying our teens a car can be such a dilemma. However, thanks to the technology, we can use Teen Tracking System. With the system, we can control all things in the car without being annoying parents. The tracking system is usually installed in hidden places like under the car dashboard, so our teens are not being able to see it.

The GPS Teen Tracking allows us to get so much information like the car speed, car location, car start and stop location so we will know where they have been, fuel consumption, and many others. Some services are giving alert service as well, so whenever our teens go too fast, we will get a notification. This is the most effective way to control our children and avoid them from danger while they are driving.

Apple iPad – Worth Getting Excited About?

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Tuesday Jan 5, 2010

Is the Apple iPad the best thing since sliced bread? Or is it just another Gee Whiz Wow gadget that’ll blast off at first then flame out just as quickly?

Given the Apple mastery of generating excitement for new products…. and their acumen in actually delivering what they promise….. IMHO I doubt the Apple iPad will be disappear into the “could have been” category. I think with iPad we’ve seen a definite shift in the realm of what is now possible.

The Apple iPad garnered a lot of attention initially in the pre-launch marketing…. and then even more after Steve Job left the stage. However, it seems a lot of tech folk are disappointed with what has been left out. Yet others are excited that the iPad is going to make technology easy for Grandma to use.

What do you think?

Will the iPad do for Apple what the iPod did….. or is it destined to be a Newton failure?

I believe the iPad will be a success….. with Apple’s having created yet another device further defining what will become a broad niche market for a special type of casual user / use. The iPad will likely find popularity in multiple rooms of a home or abroad. Most important of all they will not cannibalize sales from the iPhone. Rather iPad will compliment iPhone and help further strengthen the brand of Apple

Not to throw a downer into the mix…. but in the inital release the iPad does have a few missing items. These are Camera, USB Port, and Multitasking. The ability to store and edit documents also needs to be included. Once these are in place…. likely in a future upgrade…. the device will be very useful. One nitpick I have is that I don’t like the idea of installing applications via Itunes….. as this restricts choice. So…. yes, there’s still work to do on the iPad. But this is a 1st release….. so expect improvements over time.

Now if VOIP becomes a possibility with iPad then this is excellent news too….. and a real opportunity for the present AND future of Unified Communications.

Kepp in mind that what is left out is usually what makes Apple devices simple and elegant to use. I think it is way to early to tell for this just released version of iPad. I don’t think we will know the true impact until this time next year.

Personally I think iPad will be a hit because this type of product is ready to be exploited. The MessagePad failed because it tried to do too many things before its time…. and did not have the connectivity options that we have now. Also, other PDAs were coming out that were a fraction of the size, which was important. The pricing at the time was a bit steep for what some folks got.

Even so, from a useability point of view…. the intial release of The iPad knocks everthing else aside. Microsoft had every opportunity to develop a similar product but has struggled to deliver. Perhaps its not too late (now that they know what everyone wants).

What we need is competition, not complaints and snide comments from other manufacturers. We have a real opportunity here to really use Unified Communications. I say go for it.

Apple iPad – Get Yours For $0?

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Friday Dec 18, 2009

On January 27, 2010, Apple Computer’s CEO Steve Jobs finally announced the release of the much rumored first tablet device called the iPad during his keynote speech. When I saw it my first impression was “It is a huge iPod Touch!”

Goodness, I was so wrong when Steve started discussing the features and its capabilities. Definitely the display area is larger in comparison to the iPhone/iPod Touch’s. It is actually more than twice, measuring 9.7 inch with 1,024 x 768 resolutions. Also it is really bright.

The iPad supports multi-touch (of course!) so if you already have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you know how to use 90% of the features! Also, it can run most of Apps that you previously purchased through the iTunes store.

iPad runs very fast because it uses the new CPU called A4. If you remember the speed difference between the iPhone 3G and the newer iPhone 3Gs, then you are going to love the iPad because it runs much faster than that upgrade.

The larger display area has the “almost” full size software keyboard feature so you can use this device like a laptop computer. Naturally, Apple is going to release their business application suites such as iWork which includes “Pages,” “Numbers,” “Keynote,” etc.

How about the prices?

As you know, Apple is famous for having expensive gadgets. But because of the recent successes with price reduction of the iPhones and iPods, it was rumored that it would be just under $1,000. Think again. It comes in lower than that. The base model starts at $499 with 32Giga bytes of storage and wifi. (Cheaper than the original iPhone!) The most expensive model priced at $829 has 64Giga bytes of storage with 3G.

Now the best news, there are several ways to get the iPad for $0.00 (yes, it’s FREE.)

How?

Currently there are several programs, contests and surveys are being offered in exchange with a free iPad. These are offered by third party sponsors and companies. You just need to follow their instructions to be eligible for a free iPad.

Free Radio iPhone

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Tuesday Nov 24, 2009

If you haven’t heard it yet, AccuRadio is the internet’s leading independent radio broadcaster, the quintessential personalizable, multichannel streaming radio listening service. Enter FlyTunes, a company that has just created a mobile version of “Hurricane”, its patent-pending streaming technology, and you have a partnership that was made for iPhone.

At the April 14th RAIN (Radio and Internet Newsletter) Summit in Las Vegas, FlyTunes announced the launch of a complete mobile AccuRadio portal which combines a user-friendly interface, targeted advertising delivery, and enhanced streaming quality (QoS). Best of all, this new mobile radio service is iPhone compatible. This gives satellite radio giants Sirius and XM a run for their money, as they still scramble to get support on the various smartphone OS platforms.

Webcasting, or internet radio, currently serves over 50 million American listeners each month. And already AccuRadio – as the self-avowed “Next Generation of Radio”, and one of five nominees for the 2008 Webby Awards (“the Oscars of the Internet”) in the category of Best Radio – serves a good half-a-million of them, at least. That number is poised to swell now that smartphone users can access the service through their handheld devices – including the iPhone. Not only that, but the service is also available for users of the iPod Touch.

Whatever your musical tastes, AccuRadio has it, offering Rock, Pop, Classical, Country, Jazz, Broadway, and more: over 320 different genre-specific stations in all. Other categories to titillate mobile music fans include Oldies, Blues, Soul, Hip-Hop, Latin, Swing, Cabaret, Celtic, Reggae, Native American, and Chinese Pop. Now that’s variety! Plus, as if that wasn’t enough, AccuRadio even lets users build their own radio channels, if they like.

On the critical side, the mobile interface is still more like standard, traditional or “terrestrial” FM radio than satellite or internet radio in that it doesn’t yet display the name of the song playing, and doesn’t let users skip past songs they don’t like. Stations load up as a QuickTime movie.

If webcasting was once the new frontier, mobile webcasting has now taken its place, and rightfully so. Our culture is one that is increasingly on the go, and not everybody is crazy about the idea of listening to the same music from their iTunes library or other MP3 collection over and over again. The innovation of the FlyTunes’ AccuRadio mobile platform allows people on-the-go the same ever-changing variety of audio entertainment that commuters have had for decades through their car stereos.

5 Secret Ways to Use Your iPad

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Monday Oct 19, 2009

The new iPad is perhaps the best electronic tablet computer on the market today. Although it is more expensive than most brands such as the HP tablet, it is probably more user friendly and allows you to browse the internet faster.

Here are five different ways you can use an iPad:

1. Use it as a word processor.

You can easily create documents on the iPad. Although there is no built in physical keyboard, you can use the touch screen keyboard instead. However, if you feel that the touch screen is not good for you, you can buy a keyboard from apple that will insert straight into the iPad.

2. Watch movies.

The iPad LCD screen is massive and the quality of the video is amazing. You can easily download videos from itunes or from your computer collection with ease. You don’t need to insert large disc that can damage easily if dropped.

3. Play videogames.

There are literally hundreds of video games to download from itunes. If you can’t afford to pay for any games, there are plenty of free versions of video games to download.

4. Use social networking software

Using facebook or twitter on the iPad is easy. You don’t need to sit down on a computer and load up your browser to check your facebook updates. With the iPad, you can connect to the internet in an instant if you have a wifi connection.

5. Read ebooks.

The iPad was specially designed to read ebooks or e-magazines. The screen is clear and big enough to read a book for hours at a time.

Get a Free Apple iPad

Posted by admin under Computers And Technology on Monday Oct 19, 2009

Would you like to get a brand new Apple iPad, but you do not want to spend the extra money? There are other options out there such as getting one for free! How, you might ask?

A lot of people would automatically suspect or think an idea like this would be some kind of scam or gimmick, but they don’t realize is that there are companies out there that want to inform and show the public about their products and give away free trial offers of their products to gain you as a customer.

By giving away free products, the company can have an opportunity to show you other products and free trial offers that you might be interested in. They also get a lot publicity every time they give away hot products as awesome as the Apple iPad away for free. You win and the company wins, too. I would say its a pretty good deal for everybody.

There are all kinds of products that companies give away for free, but because the Apple iPad is so hot now this their top giveaway. This deal will not last forever, so you better get in on the promotion as soon as possible, so you can get this hot item just for checking out other products.

There are a couple of places to find these types of promotions, just make sure you don’t fall for something that is a scam. If a company wants to charge you a service fee for a free product, then do not pay it is most likely not legit. But…

If you jump on the offer right now, you will have yourself a new Apple iPad in no time.
